I was speaking with an advisor this week who was at an inflection point in his business.
As we talked about succession planning and the future of his practice, he paused and said:
“I spend my career telling business owners to plan ahead. I realized it’s time I start taking my own advice.”
That wasn’t because he was ready to retire. It was because he wanted to explore whether a strategic partnership could create liquidity, better position his business for the future, strengthen the client experience, and give him more flexibility over what comes next.
It’s a conversation I’ve had with many advisors over the years. They spend their careers helping clients think strategically about the future of their businesses, yet often delay having those same conversations about their own business.
Sometimes the most important planning conversation is the one you have about your own business, your family, your team, and what you want the next chapter to look like.
